Presentation
We are an interdisciplinary team of experts in audio, acoustics, electronics, signal processing, and artificial intelligence. We share a passion for engineering and all things sound.
This space is dedicated to supporting activities related to sound, especially in curricular units, undergraduate and master’s degree final projects, and R&D projects. An important line of action of the Laboratory’s activities is to develop and conduct research in the field of immersive and interactive audio. We are developing a line of engineering products for capturing the sound field in 3D, for example, using the ambisonic and multi-binaural concepts. These sound systems are applied in various other projects, from capturing nature sounds (soundscapes), musical concerts, estimation of the direction/location of sound sources, separation and identification of sound sources using artificial intelligence techniques, creation of immersive sound for virtual and augmented reality (VR&AR) environments, and for radio and television broadcasting.

Another important objective is to establish a strong connection with the outside world, whether with companies or other R&D institutions, through:
– Consulting and support to companies and public entities and technology transfer;
– Institutional partnerships in national and international R&D projects;
– Technical assistance, supervision and monitoring of works;
– Professional training in the areas of audio and acoustics;
– Organization of events for dissemination and public awareness with didactic experiences in the various domains of sound;
– Design and development of electronic systems for sound measurement and analysis;
– Development of computer applications to support audio and acoustics activities;
– Product development using the most current simulation and testing tools;
– Writing Terms of Reference for audio and acoustics engineering work and technical expertise;
– Consulting to municipalities in the areas of acoustics and noise control within the scope of Smart Cities and Noise Monitoring. Evaluation and analysis of the acoustic environment using an Artificial Intelligence approach;
